A new kitchen is usually a building project in disguise. JLS handles it all, building work, services, fitting and finishing, under one roof from our Biggleswade base.
Full Kitchen Replacements
Strip-out of the old kitchen, first-fix alterations to plumbing and electrics, fitting of your new units, worktops and appliances, then tiling, flooring and decoration. You choose the kitchen from any supplier, trade or high street, and we install it properly.
Kitchen Extensions
When the existing footprint just isn't enough, a single-storey rear extension with a new kitchen is the classic answer. We build these regularly. See our house extensions page for how that works.
Bespoke Carpentry & Finishing Touches
Our own carpenters build fitted larders, breakfast bars, window seats and media walls to match your new kitchen, details that off-the-shelf fitters can't offer. More on our carpentry and joinery service.
A kitchen project touches at least five trades: builder, electrician, plumber, plasterer, tiler, decorator. Coordinating them yourself is where timelines fall apart. Our project-managed approach means the electrician turns up the day the first fix is ready, the plasterer follows immediately, and the kitchen fitter isn't standing around waiting. Typical full installation: 2–3 weeks. Knock-through kitchen-diners: 4–6 weeks.
We're accredited by the Federation of Master Builders and SafeContractor, and every quotation is fixed and itemised before we start.
Most of our kitchen work is close to home, for homeowners in Biggleswade and the villages around it, where we've upgraded everything from Victorian terrace galley kitchens near the market square to open-plan spaces in newer homes. We also fit kitchens across north Hertfordshire, including for clients in Baldock , where period cottages on and around the Georgian high street often need creative layouts to make modern kitchens work in older rooms.
The showroom is the worst place to start a kitchen project. Retailers design to sell units; builders design to make rooms work. Before you order anything, get these settled:
Layout before looks. The working triangle, sink, hob, fridge, still matters more than any finish. In the narrow galley kitchens common in older terraces, a single run with the sink under the window usually beats forcing in an island that leaves 80cm walkways. In knock-through kitchen-diners, zoning matters: cooking mess out of the sightline from the sofa, and sockets planned for where life actually happens.
Services placement.Moving the sink across the room costs real money in drainage; moving a hob means gas or high-load electrical runs. Sometimes £500 of service moves unlocks a vastly better layout, and sometimes keeping the sink where it is saves £1,500 that's better spent on worktops. We'll tell you which situation you're in before you fall in love with a plan.
Lighting in layers. One ceiling pendant is how kitchens looked in 1985. Plan for task lighting under wall units, ambient ceiling lighting, and something warmer for the dining side. It's cheap at first-fix stage and expensive as an afterthought.
Extraction that actually extracts. Recirculating hoods are fine; ducted extraction is better and needs planning before plastering, not after.
Bring us your measurements before you visit the showrooms and we'll mark up what's fixed, what's movable and what it costs to move, so you shop with real constraints instead of discovering them on installation day.

We can supply through trade partners or fit a kitchen you've bought from any retailer, Howdens, Wren, Magnet, IKEA, or independent makers. Honest advice either way.
For a straight replacement, usually 5–10 working days without a functioning sink. We'll help you plan a temporary setup and sequence the work to keep downtime short.
Yes, relocating sinks, hobs and appliances is routine for us, using qualified engineers for gas work.
New electrical circuits and structural openings do. We handle certification and building control as part of the job.
