Baldock is an historic market town founded by the Knights Templar in the 12th century, on the A1(M) with its own station on the Cambridge line. The old town has a large number of period buildings, while the edges of town are newer housing, so the right approach to an extension or refurbishment varies a lot from one address to the next.
Baldock is in the North Hertfordshire District Council area. Parts of the old town fall within a conservation area, where some permitted development rights are restricted, so it is worth confirming with the council before you settle on a design.
